If you were worth 4.8 billion dollars, would you share your wealth and power for good or bad? Andrew Carnegie gave his wealth to many churches and hospitals and believed the division between rich and poor was unacceptable. However, he did not give full effort into helping the issue. Carnegie started his journey to become one of the richest men in the world when he was just 13 years old, he moved to America from Scotland. Carnegie started working in factories and worked his way up; his list of connections grew as he worked at different places, and eventually he opened his very own steel plant. Later on, JP Morgan bought Carnegie Steel for $480 million, making Andrew Carnegie one of the worlds richest men Andrew Carnegie is known for being the sympathetic, or more generous captains of industry, but there were still downfalls to his positives. Carnegie had a great amount of wealth, he couldve given better job options, better pay, and given back more to his community. If Carnegie was truly trying to minimize the gap between wealthy and poor, he would have raised wages and better working conditions. If done that, he would have prevented the Homestead Strike. The Homestead Strike was a strike between Carnegie and Frick Steel Plant employees. The Unions wanted higher wages, shorter hours and were treated as non-human. Carnegie did not agree to what the union was asking of; he didnt want confrontation, he wanted to wait until they were suffering from starvation and could not pay for necessities so they would come crawling back. Carnegie and other Captains of Industry used untruthful ways of gaining their wealth and keeping it that way. Overtime, they paid politicians to keep the distribution of wealth unequal. The practices he served were unethical, yet worked because of the power he had over the US. Andrew Carnegie used his money for good and tried his hardest to create a better quality of life for the poor. In Carnegies life, it is believed that he donated 350 million dollars. Comparing to other Captains of Industry during the time, such as Vanderbilt, he only donated one million to his own college. When looking at these men, this is a big deal there money is what compares them to one another and giving away that money, even with having so much of it meant a lot. Over 30,000 libraries were built, and education opportunities grew in the US and Scotland that are still used today. Carnegie did not believe in charity, but he did believe in education. Carnegie was making people more opportunities what could not have been there if it were not for his wealth. Although Andrew Carnegie held low wages and poor working conditions, so did everywhere else. Carnegie was lowering the cost of production and building the economy.He used his riches in many positive ways such as libraries, which were very uncommon at the time, and hospitals which are obviously a necessity. Likewise Carnegie still left a lasting impact on the economy that even today is clear, the wealth gap continues to increase rapidly, in America specifically, with the top one wealthiest percent owns over one third of Americas total wealth. Now, since Newton is known for his large part in contributing to our fundamental knowledge of physics, it makes sense that his laws would carry over into the basics of soccer. Newtons three laws are known as Newtons 1st, 2nd, and 3rd law. The 1st law says, an object that is free from all outside forces travels at a constant velocity, covering equal distances in equal times along a straight-line path (How Things Work). The 2nd is, an objects acceleration is equal to the force exerted on that object divided by the objects mass. The equality can be manipulated algebraically to state that the force on the object is equal to the product of the objects mass times its acceleration (How). The 3rd states, For every force that one object exerts on a second object, there is an equal by oppositely directed force that the second object exerts on the first (How). It is also vital to acknowledge that the concept of friction is a recurring element in these laws. Friction is, the force that resists relative motion between two surfaces in contact. Frictional forces are exerted parallel to the surfaces in the directions opposing their relative motion (How). As we see Newtons 1st law applied in the sport, spectators can see that if no outside forces are applied to the ball, then it will continue moving at the same speed and direction it was before. Knowing that friction is always at work, we know that it will not be the same speed like mentioned in the 1st law, but it will remain in the same direction unless intercepted by another player or obstacle on the field. Newtons 2nd law is observed when kicking a soccer ball which, notably, occurs quite often. When applying the force of the players foot on the ball, the force causes it to change its speed whether that is from stagnancy to tens of miles per hour, or slowing or speeding the balls speed up from the first touch. It is important to note that once the ball leaves the players foot after being kicked, it immediately decelerates no matter what the force applied was as it is instantly affected by friction. The 3rd law is seen most at work when the spectators take a closer look at the players required uniform. Soccer players are required to wear cleats as apart of their uniform. Having cleats at the bottom of their shoes allows the players not only to prevent slipping, but move more quickly since the cleats can cut through the friction applied to them from the grass allowing them to go faster. Newtons 3rd law can be seen at work here since when the cleats are implanted in the ground for that brief moment of time when moving throughout the game, there is equal force applied from the cleats to the ground and the force from the ground being applied to the cleats (The physics behind Soccer Kicks). When taking all three laws into account when playing the beautiful game, it is also important to remember that friction is a key element as well in the sport. This is since the force applied to the soccer ball needs to be applied with quick, good judgement because due to friction applied to the ball from the ground or air it will gradually slow down as it continues to move. First of all, the two ways to kick a ball are known as toe kicks and sidekicks. The names note the part of the foot the player uses to kick the ball with. Sidekicks are typically used more with younger players as it has a larger surface area to kick the ball with and more accuracy for beginners, however it exerts less power on the ball. Toe kicks on the other hand, have less accuracy but more power. Depending on where you kick the ball, really anywhere outside its center, it can cause the ball to spin on its axis, which leads us into the magnus effect (The Physics), the effect that allows the banana kick to occur. Kicking the ball utilizing this technique can cause it to change direction while in air as it spins more and more rapidly. As this occurs, the ball undergoes a top-spin. It causes the velocity of the air around the top half of the ball to become less than the air velocity of the air around the bottom half (Real). This technique is useful when making large passes from player to player in order to switch the field, or, especially when trying to score a goal because it is a difficult shot for the goalie to judge since its path is largely unpredictable. Here it can be said that effective communication process can help in achieving a better access to patients and it builds up a better relationship between the patients and the nurses. Nursing is the profession where the communication is more important because they are needed to communicate with the patient, the family of patient, the co-workers of nurses, supervisors, and many others ('tabnner's nursing care', 2015). Here some of the skills in nursing can be identified and discussed. One of the most important skills in nurse is listening. Active listening is one of the communication skills which are used in patient care. Active listening needs thelistenerto comment what they hear to the speaker. Because of the health issues active listening plays major role in nursing profession ('Therapeutic Communication Techniques', 2015). Attending skill is an essential part of communication which means the nurse gives her full attention in the patient. There are several features of attending skills like the nurse should have open posture and availability to the patient, they should involve with the patient, the eye contact between nurse and patient is also very important and the nurse should always try to be relaxed with their patient. There are certain ingredients of therapeutic communication. The key ingredients to therapeutic communication in nursing are sharing hope, active listening, sharing observation s, sharing empathy, focusing, clarifying, silence, providing information, sharing feeling, sharing humor, confrontation, self- disclosure, summarizing, paraphrasing and asking relevant questions. The key features in verbal communication are good interviewing skill, speech related gesture, effective speaking, encourage others and summarizing the major communication part. Communication is not only an essential part of nursing it is an essential part in every aspect. Nursing provides both physical and mental care to the patient and sometimes also to their clients who suffered a loss or who requires mental support. In that respect an effective communication not only helps the patient but also to their families. Nurses are the representative of a health institution and they are the main staff who has to directly communicate to the clients of the organization thus it is effected that effective communication will build a good relationship in between the organization and the clients. Today the concept of leadership has entered into the field of nursing and nurses are provided various training program in order to enhance their skills in leadership. Leadership requires effective communication so as to guide other nurses on what to do, on planning and implementing a strategy for providing enhanced form of healthcare for their clients. One of the most important tools for an effective communication is feedback and without feedback a communication is ineffective. Feedback for a healthcare system is important because without feedback an organization cannot understand where the problem lies and how it can be overcome. In that case only a nurse can avail direct interaction with the clients and understand their needs. Only nursing can avail scope for interaction and collect feedback for from patients on what improvement is needed and what can be considered. Positive body languagecan bedefinedas these nonverbal activities and signs that are communicating concern, passion, andpositive reactions to what some else are saying. Positive body language is very important in health care system because the patient and family of a patient both are dependent on the successful communication between them. There are two types of questioning. Those are closed- ended question and open- ended question. Open questions widen the range for reply since they insist further conversation and amplification. The answer of open question is very long and the answer is more specific than the closed question. The scope of Self expression and confidence of nurses are better in open- ended question. The patient should ask questions to the nurse in very less and more prominent words in the Para- phrasing. Para- phrasing is the one of the key ingredient in therapeutic communication techniques (Health.vic.gov.au, 2015). Sometimes silence of a patient is more important for a patient and their family. The patient party only wants the presence of nurse. There is no need to talk all-time. Specifically in case of critical patient silence is more essential. At that time presence is more important to the patient and their family. Empathy is a complex concept which is communicated to clients by some process. Those are ability to understand the patient's situation, perspective, and feelings, ability to act on that understanding with the patient in a supportive way and capacity to communicate that understanding and check its perfection (Kourkouta Papathanasiou, 2014). There are many boundaries which should not cross in nursing. The nurse crosses the self- disclosures mostly today. There are various types of nurse self-disclosure: accidental deliberate and unavoidable. Deliberate nurse self-disclosure can direct to puzzle patients and may damage patient nurse relationship. Patients can feel loaded by the nurses disclosure (2011-2015, 2015). The communication skill is very important for the conversation between family of patient and the nurse. The purpose of the use of humor in communication is to identify the process to ease a positive and productive learning environment for nurses. Assertive communication is a communication in which the impact of communication based on mutual respect. The style of this communication is diplomatic and effective communication style. It is challenging for a nurse to communicate with a patient in an emergency condition.
